We are Uncovering Bohol's Beauty: The Ultimate Island Retreat.

Discover the Enchanting Chocolate Hills 🍫⛰️

No trip to Bohol is complete without witnessing the legendary Chocolate Hills. These 1,200+ symmetrical mounds stretch across Carmen, Batuan, and Sagbayan, turning rich brown in the dry season, resembling giant chocolate kisses. Whether you admire them from the Chocolate Hills Complex or Sagbayan Peak, the view is simply mesmerizing.

Remember that the Chocolate Hills "disappear" in the rainy season but it magically "reappears" when the dry season returns.

I remember climbing the 200 steps to the viewing deck years ago—it was quite a workout, but the view was worth every step!

Meet the Elusive Philippine Tarsier 🐒🌿

Bohol is home to the Philippine tarsier, one of the world’s smallest primates. With its giant eyes and delicate frame, this nocturnal creature is an icon of the island’s unique biodiversity. Visit the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella to observe these sensitive animals in their natural habitat. Remember to keep noise to a minimum and avoid flash photography to protect them.

Although tarsiers are famous in Bohol, they can also be found in Davao, including Calinan, Panabo, Tagum and Mati, and Glan, Sarangani.

Cruise Along the Serene Loboc River ⛵🌿

Enjoy a scenic Loboc River Cruise aboard a floating restaurant, where you’ll savor local delicacies 🍛 while being serenaded by live music. As you glide through jade-green waters past lush forests and charming riverside villages, you’ll experience both natural beauty and cultural immersion.

Loboc River played a significant role in Bohol’s early Christianization, helping develop the town and serving as the site of the Visayas' first Jesuit seminary.

Walk Through the Bilar Man-Made Forest 🌲🌳

On the way to Chocolate Hills, take a break at the Bilar Man-Made Forest. This two-kilometer stretch of mahogany trees provides a cool, shaded sanctuary, perfect for a scenic walk or quick photo stop.

This forest was part of a government reforestation effort to restore lands damaged by logging, and today, it stands as a serene stop for travelers.

Escape to Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape (RSPL) 🌿🐦

For nature lovers, RSPL is a haven of biodiversity. Home to over 120 bird species—including the endangered Philippine cockatoo—it’s a paradise for birdwatchers.

  • Hike over 30 km of trails through limestone ridges, grasslands, and fresh springs.

  • Enjoy breathtaking views from Bilar Peak.

  • Explore over 100 caves or camp under the stars.

  • Located just 40 km east of Tagbilaran, RSPL is a perfect eco-adventure spot.

Relax on Panglao Island’s Pristine Beaches 🏖️🌊

Connected to Bohol by bridges, Panglao Island boasts some of the most stunning beaches in the Philippines.

  • Alona Beach – A lively spot with vibrant nightlife, diving 🤿, and snorkeling 🐠.

  • Dumaluan Beach – A quieter option, perfect for families and relaxation.

Both serve as gateways to top diving sites teeming with marine life.

Explore the Underwater Wonders of Balicasag Island 🐢🌊

Just a short boat ride from Panglao, Balicasag Island is a diver’s paradise. The marine sanctuary here is home to schools of jacks, barracudas, and sea turtles. Whether you're snorkeling or diving, the island’s vibrant coral reefs are a sight to behold.

Step Back in Time at Baclayon Church & Blood Compact Shrine ⛪🗿

  • Baclayon Church – One of the oldest stone churches in the Philippines, showcasing Spanish-era architecture.

  • Blood Compact Shrine – A tribute to the 1565 Sandugo treaty between Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna of Bohol.

Both sites offer a glimpse into Bohol’s rich colonial history.

Feel the Adrenaline at Danao Adventure Park 🎢🏞️

For thrill-seekers, Danao Adventure Park offers extreme activities. The Plunge – A 200-meter canyon swing and gives you the ultimate adrenaline rush. Ziplining, rock climbing, and river kayaking – Adventure awaits at every turn.

Find Serenity at Anda’s Secluded Beaches 🏝️🌊

Looking for an escape from crowds? Anda, on Bohol’s eastern coast, boasts untouched white-sand beaches like Quinale Beach. This area is gaining popularity among divers for its coral gardens and underwater caves.

Taste Bohol’s Famous Kalamay 🍯🥥

No visit is complete without trying Kalamay—a sticky, sweet delicacy made from glutinous rice, coconut milk, and brown sugar. Jagna is known for producing the best Kalamay, traditionally packed in coconut shells and very good for pasalubong.

During my 1985 trip to Bohol, I stopped in Jagna for some kalamay before heading to Davao. It was the best kalamay I’ve ever had!

Carlos P. Garcia Heritage House

Visit the beautifully preserved home of Carlos P. Garcia, the Philippines' 8th president, in Tagbilaran City. This free museum, located on A. Hontanosas Street, offers a fascinating glimpse into his life through memorabilia and historical documents.

Bohol’s Early Freedom Fighters

Bohol was home to two great Filipino freedom fighters:

  • Tamblot – A freedom fighter who resisted Spanish colonization in 1621.

  • Francisco Dagohoy – Led the longest rebellion in Philippine history (1744-1829) against Spanish rule.

A historical marker in Danao honors his legacy.

The Balangay of Hinundayan

Discovered in Hinundayan, Bohol in 1976, this ancient wooden boat is evidence of early Filipino seafaring and trade. While the original is in Manila’s National Museum, replicas can be seen at the Balangay Shrine Museum in Talibon, Bohol.
